YouTube Guarantees Some Shorts Creators $300 a Month. In February, Channels Under 10 Million Views Lose Shorts Ad Pay.

An invite-only Shorts bonus pays a floor for posting 16 Shorts a month, at least in one invite creators shared. It arrives three months before YouTube cuts Shorts ad revenue for channels below 10 million views every 90 days.

YouTube has started paying some Shorts creators for showing up. A new invite-only Shorts bonus program, live in the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, Japan and South Korea, pays a monthly minimum to creators who upload a set number of public Shorts, plus a performance bonus on top.

YouTube's help page does not publish the numbers. The invites do. A YouTube Studio screenshot posted on X by a user named Muaaz, first picked up by Social Media Today's Andrew Hutchinson on 19 October, shows a three-month offer: publish 16 Shorts a month, get a guaranteed $300, earn up to $2,000. Other invites shared on X ask for 12 Shorts and cap out at $1,000, according to a roundup by Upstream. All three set a 15 November deadline to join.

At the shared rate, the floor works out to $18.75 per Short. At the cap, $125.

The fine print

YouTube's terms call the floor a "Promotional Offer Payment" and the upside a "Promotional Bonus," calculated on "valid, engaged Shorts views" and "the typical earnings in your country." The bonus is explicitly not guaranteed. Creators must accept in YouTube Studio by the 15th for that month to count, must still be monetizing at the end of the month, and get paid through AdSense on the normal cycle, between the 21st and 26th of the following month. Google can cancel the program with 30 days' notice, or immediately to prevent abuse.

Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie told creators YouTube may invite more channels in the coming months. There is no application.

Why now

The bonus lands ahead of the biggest change to YouTube Partner Program pay since 2018. From 1 February 2027, a channel needs 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days to share in Shorts ad and Premium revenue. Channels below that stay in the program and keep long-form earnings, but get nothing from the Shorts Creator Pool until they cross the line again.

YouTube said in August that channels under the threshold would be offered "new incentive programs" instead, naming shopping bonuses, brand-deal incentives and boosts for starting trends. This is the first one with a cash floor. The same week, Ritchie also announced bonus commissions on selected Shopping affiliate products.

MediaPost's Colin Kirkland ties the bonus to YouTube's push for original Shorts. Earlier this month YouTube cut the reach of Shorts re-uploaded from other creators, and its rules already exclude views on unedited clips and no-value compilations from revenue sharing.

X pays more, for less

X is running its own version. Its invite-only Video Kickstart Bonus pays a flat $3,000 for 15 original vertical videos under three minutes, posted on 15 different days within 30 days, Mint reports. There is no view requirement, cross-posted videos are allowed without watermarks, and invited creators must enrol by 30 October. That is $200 a video, more than ten times YouTube's shared floor, for a single month rather than three.

The two offers point the same way. Platforms are paying a fixed rate for posting volume and originality, and handing out less ad share to small channels. For a mid-sized Shorts channel, February could mean the end of Creator Pool income. Over the next three months, invites like these may pay more than that income did.
