Netflix Signs ChuChu TV. 180 Million YouTube Subscribers Enter the Streamer Pipeline.
Five days after Disney locked Like Nastya into a development pact, Netflix takes four collections from India's biggest preschool YouTube brand — via Cookbook Media — and puts the audience numbers on the table while keeping the check quiet.
Illustration: POST/HYPE Studio / AI-generatedNetflix has struck a global content deal for ChuChu TV, the Chennai-born preschool YouTube franchise, Deadline's Jesse Whittock reported exclusively on 22 September.
The package covers four collections: ChuChu TV Surprise Eggs, ChuChu TV Drawing with ChuChu, ChuChu TV Colors in FunZone, and ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes, streaming worldwide in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. C21Media's Karolina Kaminska confirmed the same four titles and language slate on 23 September.
The audience stake is company-stated and large. ChuChu TV has more than 180 million subscribers and a cumulative 110 billion views across platforms including YouTube, per Cookbook Media figures carried by both Deadline and C21Media. The brand launched in 2013 as colorful, music-driven animated edutainment in the CoComelon lane: entertainment packaged as early learning.
Cookbook Media sits in the middle of the deal. The New York firm has represented ChuChu TV's content and consumer products in North America since last year and now holds rights to the wider franchise, including merchandising partnerships and spinoff series. Co-founders Claudia Scott-Hansen and Rob Bencal said in a statement that Netflix distribution will "further unlock franchise opportunities" across consumer products, marketing partnerships, and content. Founder Vinoth Chandar framed the move as another step beyond YouTube for characters, songs, and stories "across several markets and languages."
What is not in the public record is the money. Neither Deadline nor C21Media reported a license fee, term length, exclusivity language, or whether any ChuChu library leaves YouTube. Treat the 180 million / 110 billion figures as brand-reported audience scale, not as a valuation or a Netflix acquisition price.
The timing matters for the beat. On 17 September, Deadline's Denise Petski reported Disney's content and development deal with Like Nastya — more than 450 million subscribers across 25 YouTube channels in 22 languages and more than 275 billion lifetime views — including an original animated preschool series for Disney Jr. and Disney+ plus live-action for kids and families. Posthype filed that story on 18 September. Netflix's ChuChu licensing is a different instrument (named collections, not a studio development slate) and a different buyer, but it is the same trade: streamers buying YouTube-built preschool reach they did not grow themselves.
Until Netflix or Cookbook publishes commercial terms, the hard public facts are the four collections, the language list, Cookbook's intermediary role, and the company-stated subscriber and view totals.
