TikTok’s NBA and WNBA Deal Tries to Turn Highlight Watchers Into Live Viewers
The agreement combines official clips, creator access at marquee events, in-app game discovery and ad placements beside league content, beginning with WNBA All-Star Weekend.
Illustration: POST/HYPE Studio / AI-generatedTikTok, the NBA and the WNBA announced a multi-year global content partnership on July 16. It creates an ongoing league destination inside the app and starts with WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, which runs July 23–25.
The announcement describes a content and discovery agreement. TikTok does not stream the games under the announced package. GamePlan adds an anchor link to relevant NBA and WNBA videos; that link opens an in-app hub where fans can find official accounts, schedules and the service carrying each game. TikTok’s Tap to Watch feature then sends them toward the existing broadcast.
Selected TikTok creators will receive access to marquee league events to capture and publish their own material. TikTok and the NBA named the upcoming WNBA All-Star Weekend as one example, but did not identify the creators, define their access areas or say whether they will be paid. The partnership also covers game highlights and official league content throughout the year.
During the 2026 NBA Finals, TikTok says an Anchor + Detail Page generated 497 million impressions and an NBA Finals Search Hub delivered 426,000 referrals to watch games through Tap to Watch. The first is an impression count for one experience, while the second is a referral count from another. TikTok did not report how many referred users completed a tune-in, so the figures do not establish 426,000 viewers.
According to TikTok, the NBA and WNBA accounts have a combined 30 million followers on the platform. The company also says interest in the NBA and WNBA rose nearly 30% and 15%, respectively, from January 1 to June 15, based on its internal data. The release does not define how TikTok calculates “interest.” Those platform-provided figures do not measure new league fans or paid subscriptions.
For advertisers, Pulse Premiere places in-feed ads immediately after videos from publisher partners. The agreement adds NBA and WNBA content to that premium adjacency product alongside the highlights and discovery system. The announcement does not disclose media pricing, inventory commitments, revenue sharing or any financial terms. Which creators participate in the first All-Star activation, and what they produce, also remain unannounced.
